SCIENNES PRIMARY SCHOOL IS BATTLING NATURE IN ITS DREAM OF LITERARY SUCCESS
Primary
seven pupils from Sciennes Primary School are unveiling their very own
book on Friday amidst storms and the ravages of nature's power. Their
launch was booked into the Edinburgh City Chambers, but due to the
severe weather warnings it has been changed to be held in the school
hall instead. Interesting in that the book is called "Mother Nature's
Children" and is about the environment and what humans are doing to
it.
Through
the Pencilling Creative Ideas project, 86 x primary 7 pupils linked
up with specialists in publishing, marketing and author Mary T Thomson
to create the characters, write and publish "Mother Nature's Children"
- a book about a four young elemental-eco-warriors, bestowed with
powers of nature to fight for the environment by travelling through
time.
Media have been invited to attend the launch where pupils and others involved in the Curriculum for Excellence based
project will be available for interview and photos.
Date: Friday
16th December 2011
Time: 11.15am-12pm
Location: School Hall, Sciennes Primary School, Edinburgh
This
project has provided our P7 children with a wealth of integrated
learning opportunities across the curriculum. It has given them scope
to grow and develop self confidence as writers and to work
co-operatively, with a true sense of audience and purpose.
The
publication of this book showcases Curriculum for Excellence in action
and we are extremely proud of our Sciennes P7 published authors.
The book can be purchased from bookshops, or online at Amazonand costs £6.99, or £5 if bought directly from the school. http://www.sciennes.ik.org
